Hearing Aid What Is It

Client:
"Hearing aid vs. sound amplifier: What's the difference?"
Dr. Reza Ataee:
"That is an excellent question, and thank you for bringing it up. It’s completely normal to feel confused about the difference between a simple sound amplifier and a professional hearing aid, many people feel the same way!
The truth is, a hearing aid is not simply about volume. Instead, I want you to think of it as a tiny, sophisticated computer. It uses advanced chips, sometimes including AI, to deliver the best clarity that is precisely customized for your hearing loss.
These advanced devices include features like directional microphone technology, which focuses on the person speaking in front of you in noisy spots, and instantly adapts to the environment when things are quiet. This smart processing filters out targeted background noise and precisely boosts only the specific frequencies and pitches your ear is missing.
A simple sound amplifier, on the other hand, just turns up all the sound at once, including all the background noise. We need to be very careful with those devices because that excessive, unfiltered volume may potentially damage your delicate hearing system, especially when you already have existing hearing loss.
When you choose my clinic, you are getting a complete audiology program, not just a device. After a complete hearing test, I'll explain your audiogram, the type of hearing loss, and its causes with simple and clear words.
I understand every situation is unique, and if you need more details or have specific questions, I am more than happy to guide you. Please call my clinics in Downtown Vancouver or North Vancouver to book your appointment, or you can simply ask your questions directly by phone or email, and I will do my best to give a clear answer and help you with your hearing health."

Hearing Aid Uses

Client:
"How do hearing aids support my indoor and outdoor lifestyle?"
Dr. Reza Ataee:
"At my hearing clinic, the goal is to make sure the technology supports your life rather than limiting it.
Hearing aids are designed to adapt to your indoor and outdoor activities and lifestyle, whether you are at home, driving, commuting on the SkyTrain or bus, at the office, at the gym, or attending social events.
During your appointment, I’ll take the time to listen carefully to understand your routine and where you are struggling with your hearing loss. Then, I’ll show you the different brands, styles, technology levels, shapes, and features. I will explain the differences between them and help you choose the one that best suits your needs.
Today’s modern hearing aids are very smart and easy to use. They are rechargeable, water-resistant, and offer connectivity to stream directly to your hearing aids to take calls, for example, or for Zoom meetings. During your fitting appointment, I’ll program them and teach you how to use them. I’ll also show you how to connect them with your phone or tablet, and how to use the mobile app if needed.
I’m here to guide you through every step of the process. If you’re ready to start, just call my clinics in Downtown Vancouver or North Vancouver to book an appointment."

Hearing Aid Benefits

Client:
"How can hearing aids help me in quiet and noisy environments?"
Dr. Reza Ataee:
"Hearing aids automatically adapt to any environment, which is why the technology level you choose is important.
For noisy and very noisy environments, you need more power. This is where Advanced or Premium level hearing aids make the difference. They come with more features, including noise filtering and cancellation and better noise suppression, to handle complex sounds effectively.
My goal is to match the hearing aid technology level to your needs and lifestyle.
If you have more questions, please call my clinics in Downtown Vancouver or North Vancouver to book your appointment, and we will find the perfect solution for you."

Hearing Aid Types

Client:
"What's the difference between BTE and ITE hearing aids?"
Dr. Reza Ataee:
"That is a great question! BTE and ITE are the two main families of hearing aids, and each includes different sub-categories.
The Behind-the-Ear (BTE) family sits behind your ear and generally has more space for powerful features. The In-the-Ear (ITE) family fits inside your ear. Since these are smaller, they often have less room for technology compared to BTE models.
For instance, the Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) is a popular BTE style that offers a great balance of comfort and advanced features like Bluetooth. In contrast, smaller ITE styles like Completely-in-Canal (CIC) or Invisible-in-Canal (IIC) are barely visible.
However, technology is getting smaller and better every year. Today, there are new In-the-Ear hearing aids that include all the advanced features. So, if size matters to you, you can now get a tiny device without losing any performance.
The bottom line is: hearing aids come in different shapes, but all brands offer BTE and ITE styles. What makes the difference is the technology inside and the features.
I am here to help you find the perfect fit. If you want to see the differences in person, please call my clinics in Downtown Vancouver or North Vancouver to book an appointment."

Hearing Aid Levels

Client:
"Essential or Premium: Which hearing aids should I choose?"
Dr. Reza Ataee:
"Choosing the right level is actually quite straightforward. Hearing aids come with for different levels of technology: Essential, Entry Level, Advanced, and Premium.
The difference between these categories is the technology inside and the features. What you choose depends on your level of hearing loss and your lifestyle.
During your appointment, I will do a complete hearing test to identify your level of hearing loss. I will explain the results and show you what technologies and features you need to help you hear better.
If you want to find out which level fits you best, please call my clinics in Downtown Vancouver or North Vancouver to book an appointment."
